Team Update From Christian Tokarski

I have exciting, but also bittersweet news. As of next week, I will be jumping into a new role within the startup community as an entrepreneur.

I started my position at Innovate Edmonton back in September 2021. I always joke around that Innovate Edmonton plucked me away from health care and gave me, a green newbie, a chance in the startup community. Let me tell you, this green newbie was welcomed by the community with open arms, a few beers, and a sense of belonging.

I was able to help support the community that I’ve grown to love—an incredible, passionate, and supportive community—and so I’ve challenged myself to dive deep into what it really means to be an entrepreneur. Because of all the inspirational founders I’ve met along the way and the incredible entrepreneurial programs delivered by Innovate Edmonton, I feel it’s the right time to take the next step in my own journey.

Let’s be honest here and call a spade a spade. This news may come as a surprise and at very short notice, but we all know how fast the startup community moves, and it’s because the team at Innovate Edmonton wholeheartedly believes in supporting entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey, that they are supporting me in this quick transition.

My last day as Head of Startup Edmonton will be Friday, February 25, 2022. If you know me, I’ll probably take the weekend off and hit the ground running with exploring what it means to be an entrepreneur in the Edmonton startup community right after.

Thank you to the team at Innovate Edmonton for their incredible support and accommodation. Thank you to the amazing founders and startups who I have met for inspiring me, sharing your thoughts and ideas, and putting up with my horrible Dad Jokes.

Of course, once I’m gone, the amazing Startup Edmonton team, including Allan, Anna, Maxan, Nathan, and Tristan, with Chloe and Darrell, will still be here to support the startup community! You may also have met Jane Leadbeater, Manager of Placemaking & Activation, who recently joined the Innovate Edmonton team. Jane is the new contact for membership and rentals at the Mercer and will ensure our new innovation destination will be a vibrant and welcoming place for all innovators.

I could go on and on, and if you know me, you know I’m a cheesy teddy bear at heart, but let’s leave it at this. I’ll see everyone very very soon.

Cheers,

– Christian
